dollars for scholars raffle

With your support, we support local students

The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce scholarship program, funded in part by proceeds from The Taste of Lakewood, awards scholarships each year to four high school seniors from either Lakewood High School or St. Edward High School. The 2019 recipients will be recognized on stage at 4:00pm on event day.

This year, our Dollars for Scholars raffle will directly benefit the scholarship program. Tickets for the raffle will be sold in the Dollars for Scholars tent and priced at $1 each, six for $5 and an arm’s length for $20. With each ticket purchased, guests receive a Taste of Lakewood temporary tattoo.

The list of raffle prizes includes an planter from Brennan’s Floral & Gifts with more than $1,000 worth of gift cards donated by Taste of Lakewood merchants, restaurants and sponsors. There’s also a one-of-a-kind children’s picnic table built by Lakewood Hardware and a kid-sized planter with more than $250 in donated gift cards.

2019 Scholarship Recipients

Casey Coughlin

I would like to thank the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce for this tremendous award. In the fall, I will be attending The Ohio State University, where I plan to study English. I hope to put my writing skills to good use to better the community in any way possible.

Jack Hueter

I will be studying International business and Spanish at Ohio University. I hope to one day own my own business or run an already existing business that works between countries. Hobbies of mine are working out, playing and watching soccer, running track, being outdoors, and traveling.

Marisa Campbell

This fall I am thrilled to be attending Eckerd College to pursue a degree in Marine Sciences. As a scholar athlete and member of the swim team for 4 years, I am excited to combine my love for the water with my passion for the ocean and our environment into a brilliant career.

Connor Shelton

I will be attending the University of Toledo to major in biology. This would not be possible without the help of groups as charitable as the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. They have shown me how highly they value education and I endlessly appreciate that. Thank you.

Investing in the future

“In 2007 I received the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce scholarship. This support from my community and scholarship helped me finance my degree and the expenses that go along with it. I continued on to graduate from Ohio University with a degree in Outdoor Recreation and Education with a certificate in Environmental Studies. After graduation I travelled and lived all over the United States. For the past year I have been in the White Mountains of New Hampshire utilizing my degree by teaching Environmental Education to children during the school year and leading backpacking and canoe expeditions for teenagers in the summer months. Although I am away, Lakewood will always be home and I appreciate how supportive the community is.” — Jenny Young
